The existing structural defects of the sidewalk vault were thoroughly evaluated, and construction documents were developed for its full replacement. In order to maximize cost-effectiveness, the design strategy revolved around reusing the existing structural masonry walls, while integrating new cast-in-place reinforced concrete around the perimeter to accommodate the installation of a new grating system that meets the necessary structural loading requirements.
